“IF IT WASN’T FOR KEY4LIFE, I WOULD BE DEAD OR BACK IN A CELL.”
LIAM MEREDITH, KEY4LIFE PARTICIPANT
The Key4Life Seven-Step Model is underpinned by three pillars:
1) EMOTIONAL RESILIENCE
2) EMPLOYABILITY
3) ON-GOING SUPPORT
OUR PROGRAMMES
PRISON PROGRAMME
Prison Programmes run for one year – typically the first three months are taken up with step one-three of the seven step programme and the other four stages are carried out in the community when released from prison.
Whilst in prison, the first three stages of the Key4Life seven step model are delivered. These stages involve: football with QPR, music sessions, equine therapy, unlocking trauma, matching men with their mentors, preparation for work with CV writing, and mock interviews with up to 30 companies.
“KEY4LIFE Got me doing more productive things and kept me out of trouble. I’m more relaxed, I feel better in myself, and I’m bettering myself.”
Hayden, Key4Life Participant
COMMUNITY/YOI
We aim to prevent children from becoming involved in youth crime and focus on children who are either in Youth Offending Institutions or are living in deprived communities and are at risk of offending.
Our bespoke three-step youth programmes include:
- A two-day rural residential retreat
- Group workshops in equine therapy, football, music and employability/preparation for work
- 1:1 emotional resilience sessions and relationship-building work with participants’ families
Activities are led by Key Mentors, who are successful alumni of Key4Life programmes (former offenders who have now turned their lives around).
'AT RISK' PROGRAMME
The six-month, community-based At Risk programme is for young men aged between 18-30 who have been in prison or at risk of going to prison.
As with our prison programmes, we implement the Seven Step Model across communities in the South West of England and London. The main difference with At Risk programmes is that they are carried out over six months, whilst prison programmes are completed over twelve months. The saving to the taxpayer for the ‘At Risk’ programme outweighs the cost of putting the young men through prison and all other related costs (police, courts etc)
“Take on everything Key4Life has to offer. They’ll always be there for you if you ever need help.”
Jack, Key4Life Participant
SCHOOLS
As a result of the increasing trend in fixed and permanent exclusions in schools across the UK, Key4Life runs a bespoke Value for Life programme which includes:
- Delivering assemblies, workshops and activities in schools to highlight to young people the consequences of getting involved in crime.
- Training teachers in Key4Life’s emotional resilience techniques can also be included.
Much of the school’s work is supported by the Key Mentors as above, who have already been through the Key4Life 7 Step Model.
